Alasdair Punton

In February 2019 Alasdair’s wife Becky was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, less than a year after their wedding. She endured several rounds of aggressive chemotherapy and major surgery to remove the tumour, but despite the incredible efforts of her team at The Beatson WSCC and Glasgow Royal Infirmary, the cancer reoccurred, and she passed away in October 2019 aged 28.

Alasdair set up a group fund with Sarcoma UK in 2021, to raise money for the charity in Becky’s memory. Volunteering as a Grant Reviewer has given him the opportunity to contribute to how Sarcoma UK makes use of these funds to support research, with the goal of improving treatment options and outcomes for patients like Becky in future. He has also represented the charity at the Scottish Parliament, engaging with MSPs about the importance of early diagnosis.
