Sarcoma Awareness Month: Life Goes On
Sarcoma may change you, but it does not have to define you.
July is Sarcoma Awareness Month, and we are confronting a stark reality
Nearly 90% of the public either do not know what sarcoma is, or only have a vague idea. Even more concerning, our recent data shows that 16.8% of people incorrectly believe it is simply a benign lump. To change these numbers, we have to go beyond broadcasting medical definitions. We need to build true public understanding.
You asked for real experiences
When we spoke to our community about how to tackle this awareness gap, your feedback was clear. You demanded to see more real-life, “whole-person” experiences placed upfront and central. You asked for stories that look beyond medical statistics to show how life actually looks alongside a diagnosis.
We know that people might scroll past a clinical warning, but they will stop for a human story. That is why this July, our campaign theme is Living With Sarcoma: Life Goes On.
The meaning behind ‘Life Goes On’
We chose these words with care, knowing the deep nuance they hold. A sarcoma diagnosis can change a life permanently, but it does not completely define who a person is.
‘Life Goes On’ is not about pretending that any of this is easy. It is about showing that identity is stronger than a diagnosis – whether that means celebrating physical milestones, adapting to tough new routines, or finding purpose and connection through grief.
Help these stories travel further
Throughout July, we will be rolling out ten personal profiles. By reading and sharing these experiences, you are directly helping us close the public awareness gap. You are ensuring that the next person facing this rare cancer does not have to do so feeling unseen or unsupported.
