Financial support and sarcoma

A cancer diagnosis can change many aspects of your life. For a lot of people, it can have a big impact on your finances.

Some people need to work less, or even stop working completely. You might also have extra costs like travelling to hospital appointments.

You might qualify for government benefits if you, or someone you care for, have cancer.

What are benefits?

Benefits are payments from the government. They are for people who need financial help due to:

  • illness
  • disability
  • low income

There are also benefits for carers.

If you have cancer, you might be able to get some benefits to help with any issues you might be having. These include:

  • help with any extra costs
  • help if your work is affected

Some benefits depend on your income. These are means-tested benefits.

Other benefits do not depend on your income. These are non-means tested benefits.

It can be hard to work out which benefits you can apply for. The application process is sometimes confusing, and can take a long time.

Our information below will help you understand which benefits you might be able to apply for.
