Over 25% of sarcoma occur in the limbs
Most physiotherapists never expect to see sarcoma – the cancer that mimics MSK injury. But your expertise in musculoskeletal health makes you a key partner in early sarcoma recognition and holistic patient care.
Sarcoma is rare, but your patients may present with lumps, pain or unusual symptoms that need timely referral. Our resources help you confidently identify red flags and support patients through complex rehabilitation.
Lucy Dean is a clinical specialist physiotherapist in sarcoma and operational lead for rehabilitation and lymphoedema services at a specialist sarcoma centre.
With over a decade’s experience in sarcoma care, she is passionate about personalised rehabilitation, improving access, and supporting people to achieve the best possible outcomes. Lucy is co-chair of the National Sarcoma Educational Programme and received the inaugural Tricia Moate Award from Sarcoma UK in 2024.

We promote Sarcoma Awareness Month every year in July, to raise awareness of sarcoma and the importance of early diagnosis.
For 2025, we are focusing on healthcare professionals – the people best placed to spot the early signs of sarcoma. From GPs and physiotherapists to radiologists and AHPs, we’re sharing practical guidance, training resources and real stories from peers working with sarcoma.
