Your Shining Star Gaz Emmerson Fundraiser of the Year is a person or group that has done something extraordinary to raise funds to support people affected by sarcoma and to invest in research. Climbing mountains, organising events and remembering loved ones – everything they do, they do to save lives.
Winner: Chris Metcalfe
Chris has raised over £14,000 in memory of his brother, Rob, who died from pleural synovial sarcoma in 2022. Since then, Chris has scaled Kilimanjaro and completed the TCS London Marathon all while sharing Rob’s legacy at the Glitter Ball and Mansion House events for Sarcoma UK.
Sophie Andrews
Sophie has been sticking it to sarcoma since coming into remission after Ewing sarcoma. She and her family and friends have raised over £7,000 by taking part in the Royal Parks Half, London Landmarks Half and more. Sophie also helped Sarcoma UK secure Charity of the Year at her workplace.
James Read
Since the death of wife, Sarah, James has been closely involved in Sarcoma UK’s mission as an organiser, awareness raiser and very notably a fundraiser. James has helped raise over £72,000 via various challenges, most recently by completing three marathons in four weeks wearing the ‘Never Forgotten’ ball, a large costume covered with the names of loved ones lost to sarcoma.
