The challenge
Despite the importance of physical activity to heart health, childhood, adolescent and young adult sarcoma survivors are less physically active than non-cancer peers, and often to peers with different cancer types. There is also a lack of support provided to help childhood, adolescent and young adult sarcoma survivors engage in physical activity.
How will this project tackle this challenge?
This project will speak to childhood, adolescent and young adult sarcoma survivors to understand the barriers they face with regards to physical activity, gain knowledge of the type of physical activity support survivors need and want and identify of relevant behaviour change techniques to increase engagement in physical activity. This will inform the development of an intervention which aims to support and improve physical activity levels.
What this means for people affected by sarcoma
An evidence-based physical activity intervention designed for young sarcoma survivors will improve their physical activity levels and therefore improve physical and psychological wellbeing. This will help reduce poor health and protect their heart health for young sarcoma survivors.
