What you can expect when contacting the Sarcoma UK Support Line

Our Support Line offers a friendly, confidential space to ask questions, talk through concerns and get reliable information about sarcoma.

Who will I speak to?

You will speak to a member of our Support Line team. Our team includes nurses and advisers with experience in sarcoma and cancer care.

We will listen to what is concerning you and help you make sense of the information you have been given. We will never rush you or make decisions for you.

What can the team help with?

You can contact us about anything related to sarcoma, including:

  • Understanding a diagnosis, treatment or follow-up
  • Medical terms or information you have been given
  • Finding a sarcoma specialist centre or support group
  • Preparing questions for your healthcare team
  • The emotional or practical effects of sarcoma
  • Supporting a family member, friend or someone you care for
  • Getting written information about sarcoma

No question is a silly question.

What happens when I contact you?

There is no fixed time limit for telephone calls. We want you to have enough time to talk through your questions and concerns.

If the line is busy, you call near closing time or we need to research something for you, we may arrange to contact you on another working day.

If you leave a voicemail, please tell us whether we may leave a message when we call you back. We aim to respond to emails, text messages and voicemails within two working days. If we need longer to find the right information, we will let you know.

Is the service confidential?

Yes. Calls, emails and text messages are confidential and your information is stored securely.

Calls may be recorded or monitored for training and quality purposes. If another member of the team is listening to your call, we will tell you. You can ask for this not to happen.

We will not normally share your information without your permission. In exceptional circumstances, we may need to act if we believe that you or someone else is at serious risk, a child may be at risk, or we are required to do so by law or professional duties.

Read more about how we keep your information confidential.

What can’t the Support Line do?

The Support Line cannot diagnose sarcoma, recommend changes to your treatment or replace the advice of your healthcare team.

We are not an emergency service. If you need urgent medical help, contact your healthcare team or NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999.
