Sarcoma UK is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Georgie Copeman, whose courage and determination to help others touched everyone who met her.
Georgie and her wife Adel Murphy played a central role in making Sarcoma UK’s Rare But Real Walk at Mote Park, Maidstone, earlier this month the largest event the charity has ever held, with almost 500 people attending – in large part because of the community the couple built around them. Even from her hospital bed the day before the walk, Georgie recorded a message asking people to support Sarcoma UK, saying she wanted to be remembered.
Together, Georgie and Adel raised more than £21,000 for Sarcoma UK. Georgie also worked closely with our communications team to raise awareness of sarcoma nationally with their story appearing in Bella magazine and a further feature due to be published in Take a Break in October.
Mark Bhagwandin, Communications Manager at Sarcoma UK, said: ‘Georgie was one of those rare people who, in a short space of time, leaves a mark that lasts far longer than the time you actually spent with them. Even while facing the most devastating news anyone could receive, she chose to spend her remaining time helping others, raising money, raising awareness and rallying an entire community behind Sarcoma UK. Her final message to supporters – recorded from her hospital bed the day before a walk she helped make a huge success – was a request to be remembered. We will not forget her and we will continue the work she cared so deeply about in her memory.’
