Volunteer at Events & Fundraising

Bring the energy; join the events team

If you love soaking up a great atmosphere and meeting new people, this is the team for you. As an events and fundraising volunteer, you are the public face of Team Sarcoma UK. You will be out and about across the UK, creating unforgettable experiences for our supporters and helping us raise vital awareness and funds.

Current roles you can apply for

The Power Booster

Location: Cheering stations (Great North Run; Royal Parks Half Marathon)

Commitment: One-off (approx. 3-4 hours)

Dates: 13 September / 11 October

About you

Do you have energy to burn and a contagious smile? You’re the type of person who loves crowds and isn’t afraid to make noise. You understand that a high-five or a shout of encouragement can turn a bad day into a great one. You don’t need to run a marathon to be part of the race – you just need to bring the vibes.

Think you have the energy to power them across the finish line?

Why it matters

Marathons are mental battles. When our fundraisers hit “the wall” at mile 20, they are exhausted. Seeing a sea of Sarcoma UK t-shirts and hearing a wall of noise gives them the adrenaline spike they need to cross the finish line. You aren’t just watching; you are powering them home.

What’s involved

  • Making Noise: Using our clappers, whistles, and your voice to create an atmosphere.
  • Spotting: Looking out for Sarcoma UK vests and shouting the runners’ names.
  • Waving: Keeping our flags and banners high, so the crowd sees us.
  • Snapping: Taking casual photos or videos of our runners flying past (if you want to)

What to expect from us

  • Equipment: A free Sarcoma UK t-shirt and noise-making materials.
  • Refreshments: Snacks and drinks provided at the cheering station to keep your energy up.
  • Flexibility: No long-term commitment – just sign up for the events that suit you.

The Route Marshal

Location:  Gunnersbury Park, London

Commitment: One-off; we need coverage between 9am and 1pm.

Dates: 1/11/2026

About You

Do you enjoy supporting people? You have a big voice, a caring nature, and you love being outdoors. You understand that sometimes people just need a friendly face to tell them they are going in the right direction. Whether you are partnering up as part of a team or standing on your ground independently, you have the energy to keep everyone smiling!

Why It Matters

When our fundraisers hit the middle kilometres, they can feel tired and unsure of the route. Seeing your Sarcoma UK high-vis and hearing your cheers gives them the exact adrenaline spike they need to keep going. You aren’t just standing by a path; you are keeping them safe, powering them to the finish line, and using your teamwork skills to support a fantastic event.

What’s Involved

  • Directing & Cheering: Pointing the way for our walkers along the route and cheering them on.
  • Partnering Up: You’ll be paired with someone, so you can both give a big cheer together when the walkers go past.
  • Holding the Line: Wearing your high-vis and staying at your specific point on the course until the official tail walkers go past.
  • Entertaining: You may also be asked to be a fun part of our children’s scavenger hunt!

What to expect from us

  • Support & Training: You’ll get a digital info pack in advance, an online meet-up before the event to ask questions, and a full briefing from the staff team on the day.
  • Gear & Refreshments: Free Sarcoma UK merch (and your high-vis) to wear, plus refreshments provided for you on the day.
  • Community & Fun: You’ll have a great time meeting people from the sarcoma community and new people from your local area, all wanting to help the charity.

Why choose this category?

The Vibe: High energy, social, and incredibly rewarding.

The Perks: Be part of exclusive events, make great friends, and we’ll reimburse your reasonable travel expenses if agreed previously with the volunteer team.
