Claire Lupton, 40 thought she was bloated but it turned out to be a bowling-ball-sized tumour
Writing for the Daily Echo, Digital Reporter, Maya George shared the story of Claire who thought she was bloated but it turned out to be a bowling-ball sized tumour weighing 2.2kg.
Claire, 40, was diagnosed with sarcoma in 2017 and underwent surgery to remove a lump in her right forearm. Then in late 2020, she began suffering from severe side pain that turned out to be a large tumour.
‘It grew inside me without any knowledge, and I had no symptoms for a long time’, she explained.
Claire had surgery to remove the second tumour in December 2020, when the UK was in lockdown due to Covid.
‘My partner dropped me off to the hospital not knowing if he would pick me up again.
‘It was like the end of the world as one of the risks with the surgery was that I may not wake up.
‘It was terrifying.’
Surgeons also removed one of Claire’s kidneys to reduce the chance of cancer returning but just a year later, three new tumours were found.
Claire is now committed to raising awareness of sarcoma.
