Our nurses and allied professionals are the reason that most patients are positive about their care and treatment.
The National Cancer Patient Experience Survey (2014) identified that over 80% of sarcoma patients were given the name of a clinical nurse specialist.
Access to rehabilitation services provided by allied professionals in the sarcoma field is also a key factor in improving sarcoma patient outcomes and experiences.
National Sarcoma Forum
For sarcoma clinical nurse specialists (CNS) and allied professionals.
The National Sarcoma Forum (NSG) was set up in 2011. It is a formal group for all clinical nurse specialists and allied professionals working in the sarcoma field (who spend a third or more of their working time with sarcoma patients). Membership is also open to nurse specialists/AHPs/key workers in academic or research roles related to sarcoma.
The purpose of the NSG is to provide members with support, education and an opportunity for networking and to provide a national voice on clinical and strategic issues. The activities of the NSG fall into four distinct categories:
- Clinical: Improving care sarcoma; dissemination of best practice; sharing information & knowledge.
- Developmental: Highlighting new national developments; supporting colleagues new in post; involvement at national level with the development of the role; benchmarking.
- Educational: Providing a forum to update on new developments, and to discuss research/best practice.
- Professional: Providing support and networking opportunities; providing a national voice on clinical and strategic issues; highlighting the uniqueness of nursing/AHP input for patients with sarcoma.
The National Sarcoma Forum holds an annual study day as part of the British Sarcoma Group Conference.
Contact: The Chair of the National Sarcoma Forum is Andrea Slade, Macmillan Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Sarcoma, at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham. For more information about the Forum, contact NSF@sarcoma.org.uk
