We know a person’s fear of their sarcoma returning can have a huge impact on their quality of life.

The Sarcoma UK Support Line has seen a 40% increase in the number of patients worried about sarcoma recurrence this year. We know this is because scans and routine appointments have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Compared to other types of cancer, very little research has been done to look at the fear of recurrence in patients with sarcoma until now. As part of a Sarcoma UK-funded project, Dr Rachel Taylor is developing a tool to help people affected by sarcoma manage this difficult issue. She’s looking for people with sarcoma to complete a survey, asking about your experience with fear of recurrence.

‘We know that there are ways of helping patients manage fear of recurrence so it doesn't take over their life, but it is important that we understand how many people experience it, and the factors that can influence it so we can develop an intervention that will specifically support patients with sarcoma,’ says Rachel. ‘Completing this survey will be the first step toward developing this intervention.’
