“I hope to be able to help others in the same situation as me”.
When Charley Ashton was eventually diagnosed with inflammatory myofibrosarcoma, her family and friends very generously raised funds for her treatment. Sadly, Charley died last April, but her family wanted to honour her wish to help others by making a donation to Sarcoma UK.
Earlier this week, Jessica, Charley’s wife, and Harriet, her sister, presented Sarcoma UK with £60,000 to set up Charley’s Fund. The fund will directly support Sarcoma UK’s cutting-edge research programme which includes projects that focus on new treatments such as immunotherapy, which Charley was personally interested in. It will also support research looking at how a simple blood test could be developed to identify genetic markers for sarcoma. This could make diagnosis quicker and easier, and lead to more effective treatments.
