This year Sarcoma UK aims to fund £500,000 into sarcoma research projects. This is the charity's biggest ever research investment and a significant increase from the £350,000 allocated to research in 2015.

Today Sarcoma UK launches Round 1 of its 2016 Research Grant call, with a funding round investing £250,000 into Clinical Research and Quality of Life Research opening today.

We are launching two grant rounds in 2016 to reflect the charity's growing research programme; the Clinical Research round is open today, and a Basic Science round awarding a further £250,000 is planned for later in the year.

Within today’s call, we are also launching the inaugural Roger Wilson Research Award in recognition of our founder Roger Wilson and his vision that the charity should fund research as part of its mission. This will be an annual call focused on a specific area of research. The 2016 theme to this call is Quality of Life.

Professor Ian Judson, Chair of the RAC said ”we are delighted that the Sarcoma UK research programme continues to grow and we can continue our world class research programme to fund more sarcoma research”.

Sarah McDonald, our Director of Research, Information & Support said “thanks to our fantastic supporters, our research programme grows again in 2016 and allows us to focus on research into specific areas which will benefit sarcoma patients.

The launch of our Research Strategy in December 2015 shows we have ambitious plans for research into sarcoma and this call is the first step on the path to improvements for patients."
