Sarcoma UK is delighted to announce a significant increase in our funding of sarcoma scientific research. We have opened a call for research proposals with the intention to invest a quarter of a million pounds.  This compares to the previous years of £100,000 and is a direct result of increased support for Sarcoma UK from the sarcoma community of patients, relatives, friends, health professionals and other stakeholders.

This increased investment is an opportunity to make a significant impact on sarcoma research for the benefit of patients. We are looking to fund ground breaking scientific projects that will move forward the knowledge and understanding of sarcoma, always with the ultimate aim of transforming the lives of sarcoma patients in the future.

Our call for proposals is based on a mixed economy approach, in order to encourage innovation and new ideas. We invite applications for:

  • Small pump-priming grants of around £25k that will test out new ideas and generate preliminary data. (Maximum grant considered will be £50k.)
  • Larger grants of around £100k, although we will consider funding one exceptional grant of around £200k.

We intend to fully fund the grants we award.

We will consider applications from the UK-arm of international studies that fit our criteria.

Our strategy is to always fund the best quality scientific research.

All research grants will be subject to thorough peer review processes in line with best practice set out by the Association of Medical Research Charities, of which Sarcoma UK is a member.

The deadline for applications is 5pm Wednesday 19 February 2014. Please see Apply for Funding for more details.
