Would you like to help shape the research funded by Sarcoma UK?

We’re looking for volunteers who want to make a real contribution to sarcoma research, by helping Sarcoma UK decide which research projects to fund. Your perspective and understanding of what it’s like to have sarcoma is vital in ensuring that we’re funding research which will benefit the sarcoma community. This is an important role which will make a huge difference to sarcoma research.

As a volunteer Research Grant Lay Reviewer for Sarcoma UK, you’ll assess the relevance and importance of research projects, based on your personal experience of sarcoma, to help us decide which to fund.

What would I be doing?

As a volunteer Research Grant Lay Reviewer for Sarcoma UK, you’ll review some parts of the applications we receive from scientists, which ask for funding to support a specific research project. These application forms describe what sarcoma research the scientists would do and how they'd carry it out.

You’d complete a short, written form with your comments about each application. All applications have sections written in plain English, so you don’t need to have a science or research background for this role. We’re looking for the unique insight you bring, from your personal experience of sarcoma and your understanding of its challenges. You’d also attend a training session with Sarcoma UK’s research team before you start.

Anyone with personal experience of sarcoma is welcome to apply – we want to hear from everyone.

When and where?

The role is home-based. We’re looking for volunteers who can commit up to 10 hours between September 2021 and January 2022.

How do I apply?

For more information, check out the role description below, and do get in touch with Kate at research@sarcoma.org.uk with any questions.

To apply, complete the short application form and the equal opportunities form, which are both available to download below. Send both of these to us by email at research@sarcoma.org.uk by 5pm on Thursday 5th August 2021.

Thank you for getting involved - your input will make a huge difference to sarcoma research.
