10 people are diagnosed with sarcoma every day in the UK. People with sarcoma tend to be younger than most people with cancer, and half of the people diagnosed with sarcoma will not survive.
Sarcoma UK is the only cancer charity in the UK focusing on all types of sarcoma. We are a vibrant, growing charity, and we put the people affected by sarcoma at the heart of everything we do. Our strategy ‘Transforming the Landscape for Sarcoma 2014 - 2020’ sets out our goals and strategic priorities including a research-related goal ‘More will be known about the causes of sarcoma’.
We have an exciting opportunity to join a great organisation in supporting our active and impactful research programme. The Research Grants Officer is a key role at Sarcoma UK providing support to our expanding research grants programme.
To date, Sarcoma UK has funded 33 research projects, representing an investment of £1,500,000. In 2017, we aim to invest a further £500,000 into research in our annual calls for proposals. We currently manage 10 open grants, with 5 recently awarded and a clinical research round undergoing peer review.
Sarcoma UK has developed its research grants management programme significantly in the last few years with a range of scheme including our flagship Sayako Grace Robinson PhD scheme. We are an active AMRC member, and passed the AMRC Peer Review Audit.
The post holder will support and help develop Sarcoma UK’s Research Programme. It is an ideal role for someone with a scientific background and an interest in research who is looking for a role where they can make a real impact for people affected by sarcoma and their families.
